Learn how to dehydrate celery to preserve its freshness and flavor.

Step 1: Wash and Prepare the Celery

Make sure to remove any dirt or debris from the celery stalks and trim off any brown or wilted ends.

Step 2: Slice or Dice the Celery

Hands chopping celery on a wooden board in a kitchen. Person wears a maroon sleeve and an apron with "Marie" text. Granite countertop.

You can slice the celery into thin pieces or dice it into small cubes, depending on your preference. I cut them into 1/4-1/2 inch slices.

Step 3: Arrange Celery on Dehydrator Trays

Hands spread chopped celery on a tray in a kitchen. The person wears a beige apron with "Maria" and a maroon shirt. Marble countertop.

Spread out the celery pieces on the trays. Make sure not to overcrowd the trays to ensure efficient drying.

Step 4: Set the Dehydrator Temperature and Time

For celery, I recommend setting the temperature to around 125°F and dehydrating for 6 to 12 hours.

Hands hold a gray grid over a metal bowl, with yellow bits stuck in it, set in a kitchen. Stack of similar grids in the background.

Step 5: Check for Dryness

The celery should be dry and crispy to the touch with no signs of moisture.

Person pours dried herbs from a metal bowl into a mason jar through a blue funnel on a kitchen counter. Wearing red shirt and beige apron.

Step 6: Store the Dried Celery

Store the dried celery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

And there you have it! Your own homemade dehydrated celery, perfect for adding flavor to soups, stews, and snacks.
