Achieving Streak Free Window Cleaning

Updated: Nov 25

When it comes to maintaining a clean and pristine home, sparkling windows play a vital role in enhancing both the aesthetics and the overall ambiance. However, achieving streak-free results can be a daunting task for many. The good news is that you don’t have to rely on expensive chemical cleaners to get the job done. In this blog post, we will explore a simple and effective method for streak free window cleaning using a simple DIY homemade cleaning solution. We’ll also cover vacuuming and cleaning the window sills to ensure a thorough and satisfying cleaning experience. So let’s dive in and make those windows shine.

Prepare your tools and solution

Before you begin, gather the necessary tools: a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment, two microfiber towels, and a spray bottle. Fill the spray bottle with a solution consisting of 5 drops of liquid soap (I generally use Dawn or Castile), 10 parts Water, and 1 part Vinegar. This mixture is not only cost-effective but also eco-friendly and safe for use around children and pets.

Streak Free Window Cleaning Solution Recipe

  1. 5 Drops of Liquid Soap (I generally use Dawn or Castile)

  2. 10 parts Water

  3. 1 part Vinegar (White Distilled or ACV)

Start with vacuuming

Before tackling the windows, it’s essential to remove any loose dirt, dust, or debris from the window frames, sills, and surrounding areas. Use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently remove these particles. This step will prevent dirt from spreading around and marring your streak-free results later.

Apply the water-vinegar solution

Spray the water-vinegar solution generously onto the window glass, ensuring complete coverage. Vinegar is an excellent natural cleaning agent that helps dissolve grime and grease while leaving behind a streak-free finish.

Wipe away the cleaning solution

Take one of the microfiber towels and use it to wipe off the majority of the cleaning solution from the window surface. Start from the top and work your way down, using horizontal or vertical strokes. The microfiber towel will absorb the solution efficiently and pick up any remaining dirt or smudges.

Achieve a streak-free finish

Now, it’s time to achieve those pristine, streak-free windows. Take the second microfiber towel, making sure it is clean and dry. Starting from the top again, wipe the window surface using either horizontal or vertical strokes, whichever you prefer. This final step will remove any remaining residue, leaving you with spotless, crystal-clear windows.

Clean the window sills

Don’t forget about the window sills! Spray some of the water-vinegar solution directly onto the sills and wipe them clean with a microfiber towel. This step ensures that every part of the window area is left shining and free from dust and grime.

With the right approach achieving streak-free windows becomes a hassle-free task. By incorporating vacuuming to remove loose dirt and debris, followed by the application of the solution, wiping away the excess, and finally using a clean microfiber towel for a streak-free finish, you can enjoy the satisfaction of crystal-clear windows that brighten up your living space.

Remember, cleaning your windows regularly helps maintain their beauty and extends their lifespan. With just a little effort and the right technique, you’ll be able to enjoy the view through spotless windows that enhance the overall appeal of your home. Happy cleaning!
