Pluots are a hybrid of plums and apricots. They take the best of both fruits and combine them. They have the sweetness of the apricots and the flavor of the plum. It is overall a lovely combination.

Frozen pluots are great for a variety of uses including baking, smoothies, and, especially, eating plain. I really like that I can freeze pluots now and then can them later when the summer is not so hectic.

Pluots, halved and whole, sit in a wooden bowl beside a bowl of ice on a woven mat in a simple food prep scene.

The first step in freezing pluots is to prepare your pluots by washing and pitting them.

Hands pit sliced plums on a wooden cutting board in a kitchen, with a green bowl and bowl of plums nearby.

Now that the pluots are ready, let’s individually freeze them. This method allows the pluots to be removed from the freezer individually instead of in one large ice block.

How to Freeze Pluots

Hands arrange halved plums on a cutting board and baking sheet in a kitchen, preparing fruit for roasting.

Freezing pluots is done by placing the pluots on a baking sheet with a silicone mat and placing them into the freezer to freeze for 4 hours.

Hands bagging sliced peaches on a baking tray atop a speckled kitchen counter.

After they have been frozen individually place them in long-term storage freezer bags.

Hands label a clear zip bag with a pink marker on a granite counter; the tag reads Kirkland Signature and Plutos.

I remove as much air as possible. I then label the storage bag with the date and contents. Then I lay the bag as flat as possible in the freezer so it will stack better.

Note: It is easier to label them before putting the pluots in.
